If you like books you can laugh with, books that quietly tug at your heart or make you a little bit mad, and especially books that urge you to think about lots of ideas and decisions touching the lives of people like you - well, then, you’ve come to the right place. Enjoy the trip!
Your Friend, Lois

what's new?

It’s been a long time between books, but hold on. One’s coming soon! My newest is my first non-fiction book for middle graders and teens. It’s about Mary Harris "Mother" Jones. She was a feisty, cantankerous, and uncompromising woman who spoke up loud and clear for laborers of every stripe - coal miners, bottle washers, railroaders and steelworkers, and children who labored long, dangerous hours in mines and textile mills. She was 93 at her 100th birthday. (Figure that one out!) Crisscrossing the country for half a century, Mother Jones once said, "My shoes are my home. I follow where they lead me." She said a lot of things unbefitting a lady, too. Wait ’til you meet her! So watch for Strike! Mother Jones and the Colorado Coal Fields War this fall, from Filter Press of Colorado.

Also, I'll have another teen novel out in 2013 - a romance about a contemporary girl who falls crazy-in-love with a solider in the Battle of Gettysburg. Can this long-distance romance survive? By long-distance, I mean 150 years. Also, there's another little problem: she's alive, and he's a ghost. Think about it...
